Why Can't I...?
While we have made Updates Anytime work as much like a word processor as possible, the fact that it allows editing web pages implies certain limitations. We hope the following explains why certain types of editing are prohibited.
Why Can't I Underline?
On a web page, underlining means a link. If you were to underline a word without making it a link, your visitors would click these underlined words fruitlessly, become frustrated and go to another site.
For usability reasons, text should never be underlined if it is not a link.
For emphasis, you can italicize or bold. Just use the I and B buttons as you normally would. Ctrl-i also works for italics, and Ctrl-b works for bold.
Why Can't I Change My HTML Form?
Note: this regards the contact page or other page that contains an HTML form allowing visitors to send you a message, calculate a quote, etc. Changing your downloadable .pdf form is a completely different thing.
Your HTML form has programming code embedded in it. If that code should get changed accidentally, the form would stop working, and the first you'd hear about it would be when a visitor complained. Also, any change to an HTML form requires changes to the code. Updates Anytime is not intended for editing the code that drives HTML forms.
If you need a change of this type, contact us. Our programmers will take care of it for you.
Why Can't I Change the Background Color, Font, Type Color or Type Size?
You can, but the choices may be limited. Your web site was professionally designed with a carefully chosen font, type sizes and colors. In order to preserve that design, we have limited the choices for modifying text.
Among your editing controls are 2 dropdown lists. The left list lets you change highlighted text to a normal paragraph, an H1 Headline, an H2 Headline and so on. The right list lets you apply various styles to highlighted text. If your web site design included a style with a different size, color or font choice, this is where you will find it.
Why Can't I Edit the Text Above My HTML Form / The Thank You Message?
Some HTML forms get replaced on the page with a Thank You message after the Send button is clicked. That trick is accomplished with programming code. Updates Anytime is not intended for editing programming code. If you need a change to the words in these areas, contact us. Believe us, you don't want to try editing code. Making it available for editing would create a gigantic security hole.
Pages can remain locked if an editor should close the browser while editing. Please make sure you either save your changes as a draft or exit from the edit view to keep the page unlocked for other editors.
